Since 2008, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers has partnered with Children’s of Alabama in the annual ‘Changing Oil, Changing Lives’ campaign to help strengthen patients and their families in their fight against cancer, blood and cardiac disorders. This annual commitment directly supports the Expressive Activities for Hope and Healing at the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders (ACCCBD) and the Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center at Children’s of Alabama. We’ve been consistently amazed at the overwhelming support from our customers and the artwork presented year after year.

As of 2022, with the support from our loyal customers, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers has been humbled and honored to contribute over $1,200,000 to this impactful, healing program. “Whether it’s for admissions, surgeries or clinic appointments, having a way to artistically express the emotions that come with a cardiac diagnosis has been extremely beneficial in promoting overall coping for our patients,” said Kassidy Narber, Certified Child Life Specialist, Cardiovascular Services. “We are so appreciative of Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers’s dedication to Children’s."

Children’s of Alabama recognizes individuals, corporations, and organizations as Pillars of the Community when their strong support of the hospital has reached $1 million. We are proud to add Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers to our pillars and signify over 15 years of commitment to creating brighter futures for Alabama’s kids. Their dedication has grown the art and expressive therapy program at Children’s and enables it to be. The diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer or blood disorders presents many emotional and practical challenges for the entire family. With the Hope and Cope Program, both patients and their families are provided a creative experience to express their feelings, fears and concerns, while bolstering a sense of normalcy, strength and comfort.

“We are committed to a cure, which includes healing the whole person and improving the quality of life for children and their families,” said Avi Madan-Swain, PhD, Director, Hope and Cope Psychosocial Program. “Through our Hope and Cope program, we provide activities to foster health and well-being and one of our major initiatives has been expressive activities. Express Oil’s partnership is ensuring that through art, music and other activities, children and teens get to explore and work through feelings, fears, concerns, and pain. They also can be distracted from being hospitalized, and escape into an imaginary world or a place that provides them with a sense of normalcy, strength and comfort.”

Every October, Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers partners with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to support the Hospital School Program. This program helps continue the “school experience” while in the hospital, creating a more conventional learning atmosphere. Young patients retain a sense of normalcy, continue to learn, and possibly, hasten the healing process. The program allows patients to have access to computers, online textbooks, and certified teachers. The teachers also can help families work with their child’s school so that no one falls behind in the hospital. Families do not pay for any services the Hospital School Program provides. Children’s relies on community support so kids can be kids, even in the hospital. It’s a program that Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers proudly supports for the entire state of Georgia.

Each year, during the month of April and the month of October, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers pledges to donate $1 for every car serviced at our Alabama (April) locations and all Georgia (October) locations.
